Bollywood is back in full force, with a bunch of new releases and more to come later this year. As is customary, there is a wide range of genres for Hindi Movies. There are a variety of atypical fierce female narratives, as well as several delightful family-friendly musicals, serious action thrillers, and epic period films. So grab some popcorn, settle in, and enjoy these incredible Bollywood films from 2022.
- Gangubai Kathiawadi
First on the list is Gangubai Kathiawadi, a semi-biographical drama based on Ganga Harjivandas Kathiawadi, whose life was chronicled in S. Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Ganga is a young woman who begins her career as a brothel prostitute and progresses to become a strong underground figure in the film. Gangubai Kathiawadi has a great story that will keep you intrigued till the end. Alia Bhatt gave her best performance as the leading lady in the movie.
- Badhaai Do
The tale revolves around the lives of Shardul (Rajkummar Rao), a police officer, and Sumi, a teacher (Bhumi Pednekar). After revealing to one another that they are gay, the duo agrees to marry for the sake of convenience. Shardul and Sumi live a balanced and happy existence life by dating other people, but things become complicated when Sumi’s girlfriend moves in with them.
- A Thursday
We rarely get to see the hostage thriller genre being explored in Indian cinema that often. The movie ‘A Thursday’ is an intriguing watch featuring Yami Gautam Dhar in a lead role. She plays the character Naina, a school teacher, who takes 16 students hostage. The narrative becomes quite chaotic when she starts putting out demands that send shock waves through the country. The film is beautifully portrayed and gives a strong message that gets revealed in the end.
- Looop Lapeta
Looop Lapeta is among the newest Hindi movies of 2022. The comedy thriller film is a Hindi version of the German movie Run Lola Run, which was released in 1998. It follows Savi, a young woman whose boyfriend loses a mob boss’s money. It’s up to her to save him from the lethal criminal and break free from the endless time loop she’s trapped in. Looop Lapeta features actress Taapsee Pannu and Tahir Raj Bhasin in lead roles. You can watch the Hindi movie online on Netflix.
- Gehraiyaan
Gehraiyaan is a gripping love story that takes a raw look at young romance. In the movie, Alisha (Deepika Padukone) is a thirty-year-old yoga studio owner who has been in a good six-year relationship. She has been unsuccessful in her attempts to get money to launch her yoga fitness app. Things come to a halt when Alisha appears to be stuck in a rut in both her personal and professional lives. However, when her cousin Tia and her fiancé Zain visit, she feels re-energized as she bonds with Zain. The film is currently streaming on the Amazon Prime Video platform.
